Katherine

Katherine was a demanding production. The effects were of the invisible kind. Prior to my arrival there was talk of a very surreal opening sequence; doors within doors within windows. That was ditched and I was asked to return the opening of the film to a clean and neatly art directed state.

This cleaning process called for replacing blue screens with photo-realistic doors and windows, as well as sky replacements. All shots were done at 2k resolution and output to cineon files.

Katherine has excellent cinematography, solid directing, and is a DGA award winning film. But for me one shot stands out (in a good way). I was given a stark daylight plate of the warehouse Katherine called home. This harsh plate was transformed into a midnight to sunrise time lapse image that closes the film. The attention to color, subtle choreography of light, and thematic resonance make it my favorite.
